Exposition on electronic components in January

Our Bureau
Bangalore, Dec 29: Electronics Today -- India's oldest techno-economics monthly -- is conducting an international conference and exhibition of electronic components materials and production equipment from January 21 to 24 in Bangalore.

Componex'98 -- a four-day event -- will emphasise on investment and business opportunities, areas of joint ventures and strategic alliances, for local production and export of electronic components.

This mega event, which is likely to house more than 150 companies from India and abroad, will also focus on emerging technologies, modernisation and miniaturisation trends in this segment. With the production of electronic components in India expected to go up from the current Rs 4,200 crore to Rs 15,600 crore during 2001-02, the country is poised for an unprecedented growth, stated a ET release. However, it is estimated that total import of electronic components during the ninth five year plan will amount to Rs 11,590 crore -- 45 per cent of India's total requirement.

Componex'98 is sponsored by the Department of Electronics and co-sponsored by other organisations and industry associations. Companies from India, US, UK, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and South Africa will participate in the event.

The organisers are also planning to hold a three-day conference on Investment and Business Opportunities in Electronic Components in India. The conference will be inaugurated by DoE secretary Shyamal Ghosh. The conference will also have a special session on Business and Investment Opportunities in Electronics in Karnataka, conducted by Greater Mysore Chamber of Industry (GMCI) and the KEONICS.
