NSE up on speculative buying

MUMBAI, December 29: Share prices rose further smartly on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday on increased speculative buying by bull operators. The NSE-50 index opened higher at 1061.65 and shot up to 1081.50. Later, it closed at 1079.00, showing a gain of 17.55 over the last close of 1061.45. The dollar NSE-50 (defty) also started firm at 939.35 and after moving in a range of 955.45 and 937.05, ended at 953.45, disclosing a gain of 14.30 from the previous close of 939.15.The midcap-index after a higher start at 1169.65, rose further to 1179.80 and closed at 1179.00, showing a gain of 9.65 over the last close of 1169.35. The market showed a total turnover of Rs 1100.58 crore from 462.19 lakh shares in 1,46,185 trades. Debenture turnover was Rs 89.14 lakh. The most actively traded securities were ITC (Rs 346.80 crore), Tata Tea (Rs 134.20 crore), SBIN (Rs 110.69 crore) and Reliance (Rs 98.53 crore). Other actively traded securities were TELCO (Rs 64.67 crs), castrol (Rs 40.88 crs), acc (Rs
33.86 crs) L&T (Rs 29.46 crs), TISCO (Rs 25.60 crs), lml (Rs 23.01 crs), Hind Lever (Rs 19.98 crs), Colgate (Rs 19.65 crs), mtnl (Rs 18.34 crs), CorpBank (Rs 11.53 crs), bhel (Rs 10.03 crs), Bajaj Auto (Rs 9.10 crs), IPCL (Rs 7.45 crs), bpl (Rs 6.73 crs), Infosystch (Rs 5.54 crs), Glaxo (Rs 5.51 crs), vsnl (Rs 4.35 crs) and icici (Rs 3.77 crore).
