Railways freight earnings up 21 per cent

NEW DELHI, Dec 29: The railways earned Rs 12,940.91 crore from 276.69 million tonnes of revenue freight during the first eight months of the current financial year ending November as compared to Rs 10,659.45 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year, representing an increase of 21.40 per cent.other goods, ministry sources added. Of the total earnings, Rs 6202.27 crore came from transportation of coal, Rs 598.96 crore from raw material to steel plants, Rs 805.64 crore from finished iron and steel from steel plants, Rs 279.12 crore from iron ore for export, Rs 1061.88 crore from cement, Rs 845.88 crore from foodgrains, Rs 574.72 crore from fertilisers, Rs 1614.50 crore from petroleum, oil and lubricant (POL) and Rs 957.94 crore from other goods.
