Usha Shriram eyes water-filter market

PUNE, January 4: Usha Shriram plans to acquire at least 25 per cent of the water-filter market in the country within the next three years. The company's new wate- purification and filtration system intends to establish its presence in the Rs 300-crore industry, largely dominated by several unorganised players who constitute more than 85 per cent of the market.The 20-litre "Usha Brita Waterguard" was launched here by Pradeep Narain, general manager, marketing, as part of its nationwide product launch. The product is manufactured in a 50:50 joint venture with Brita Wasser Filter Systeme GmbH, Germany, a world leader in household filtration systems having a 85 per cent market share. The manufacturing facility is located at Gurgaon and the company has invested about Rs 20 crore till date. Commercial operations have not yet begun. The product, priced at Rs 2145, is targeted at the household segment. It has already been launched in other states as well as in Sri Lanka. The water filter market in the country is
estimated to be growing annually at 25 per cent. Usha Shriram has estimated a Rs 100 crore turnover and a sales target of over 5,00,000 units in the next three years.
