NIIT bags World Economic Forum award: The New Delhi-based software and computer training outfit, NIIT, has been conferred the prestigious top-performing global growth company award from the World Economic Forum. According to the company, the award was a result of WEF's recognition of NIIT's contribution to the global industry, its consistent achievement of growth rates above the ordinary and its success in globalisation.

NIIT is actively involved in IT consultancy, systems integration, software solutions, computer training and creating educational material. NIIT's software development process has been assessed at SEI Level 3 as per the Software Engineering Institute's capability maturity model.

Alcatel's new multimedia kit: Alcatel Business Systems (India) Ltd, a 51:49 joint venture between Alcatel Business Systems of France and United Telecom, has introduced a new multimedia communication system in the country. Called Alcatel 4400, the system can serve the purposes of an EPABX, a Hub, multiplexer, wireless communication front end, multimedia communications integrator and applications platform. The system operates on the Alcatel crystal technology and is based on the broadband ATM technology using UNIX V as its operating system.

Green action plant to be unveiled: The environmental action plan for Mumbai, prepared jointly by the Federation of Environment and Developmental Organisations (FEDO), Indian Merchant's Chamber and Rotary International, will be released at a day-long seminar in Mumbai on January 21. Union environment minister Saiffuddin Soz will be the chief guest, while city mayor Vishakha Raut will be the guest of honour. Former minister BA Desai, former state chief secretary DM Sukhthankar, former Punjab director general of police JF Riberio, additional municipal commissioner S Ramani, Sicom managing director DT Joseph, leading architect Charles Correa will speak on burgeoning problems of air, water and noise pollution.

Seminar of environment regulations: A seminar on Environment Regulations and Business Opportunities is being organised by Global Compuvisions, International Business Information and Media Centre on January 22. The seminar will discuss at length the growth of this sunrise industry and concern for the environment. It will also hold discussion on possible investment opportunities in the field of pollution control. The seminar will be addressed by environmentalist Rashmi Mayur, president of Indian Environment Association - SJ Arseiwala.
