Ajanta Pharma unveils Uzbekistan facility: Ajanta Pharma has recently inaugurated its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Uzbekistan. The facility which conforms to the good manufacturing practices (GMP) guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO), manufactures a range of products including antibiotics, analgesics and cardiovascular drugs. The plant has a capacity to manufacture 300 million tablets, 75 million capsules and 200 million ampoules. Ajanta Pharma's products will be used by government hospitals and distributed through the Uzbek national distribution system. The company, through this venture, hopes to control 30 per cent of the Uzbek pharma market.

Modern aluminium alloy wheels unit in Vizag: The country's first unit to manufacture aluminium alloy wheels using modern low-pressure die casting technology has been set up at Vishakhapatnam by a NRI businessman. The export-oriented unit of Synergies-Dooray Automotive Ltd will commence production in March this year and will come ahead of Indian Aluminium majors Nalco, Hindalco, Pentafour and Wason power, who have all firmed up projects to manufacture aluminium alloy wheels for cars. The project has been set up at a cost of $30 million and will produce 6.7 lakh alloy wheels for cars annually, promoter and company managing director Shekhar Movva said.

NIS to set up overseas centres: Interpersonal sales and marketing training institution NIS, an associate of NIIT, is opening its branches in Oman in the Middle East and Colombo in neighbouring Sri Lanka next month. This is part of a plan to expand its operations to overseas countries. The centres would offer training for the career segment as well as corporate training for sales professionals to meet the demand for new corporate mind sets needed in the competitive environment, NIS president Sanjeev Duggal said.

India Business Week's 200th show on January 25: The television programme, India Business Week (IBW), will complete 200 weeks on January 25. "India Business Week is an excellent programme. I know a lot of my friends watch it, our managers watch it very often," said Godrej Soaps managing director Adi Godrej. IBW editor Arun Subramaniam is now looking to make the show more analytical. "It is our analysis of a subject that make a difference. We talk to the senior management of the company, analysts and the competition. The regular presence of chief executive officers on our show ensures a high degree of credibility," he said.

Samsung launches audio system: Consumer electronics giant Samsung Electronics India Ltd on Tuesday launched a state-of-the-art audio system that offers advanced dolby pro logic system. The latest offering from the Samsung stable is a Max 632 p mini with 1400W PMPO sound output that has been designed to enhance sound localisation through the use of high separation decoding techniques, a company release said.

DoT's entry in cellular telephony detrimental: ICICI: The country's premier financial institution ICICI has warned against the entry of the department of telecommunications (DoT) as a third cellular operator, saying it would be detrimental to existing operators. "Entry of third operator before consolidation of business would be detrimental to existing operators. DoT should refrain from entering as a third operator at least for another five years," ICICI said in a presentation to the core committee on infrastructure.
