  SCOPE to put state PSU reforms on the agenda
The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (Scope) is extending its membership to state PSUs run by state governments and is drawing up a plan to usher in reforms and bring in some kind of uniformity in these units.
  DoE drafts policy paper on electronic cities
The Department of Electronics (DoE) has drafted a policy paper for the setting up of "clusters" or electronic cities across the country. These clusters will be specifically for the electronics industry and will have inbuilt infrastructural facilities and vertically and horizontally integrated electronic companies functioning within a defined area.

IBA to interact with Assocham, Ficci to refocus on role
The Indian Banks' Association (IBA) will interact with industry chambers like the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry (Assocham) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (Ficci) in a bid to refocus its role.
Ministry takes up issue of easing curbs on EoUs
The Union commerce ministry has once again taken up with the revenue department the issue of "unshackling" all physical controls on hundred per cent export-oriented units and replacing these by "fiscal" ones, in view of the on-going reforms. The ministry is also deliberating upon forming a two-member panel to examine the matter in detail.

Calcutta port signs two-year contract with HAM Dredging
Calcutta Port Trust (CPT) has engaged Netherlands-based HAM Dredging and Marine Contractors, one of the largest dredging companies in the world, to dredge 16 million cubic metres (mcm) of soil in the Jellingham and Auckland areas. The two-year contract is worth Rs 280.45 crore.

Emission regulations for tractors likely from April 1
Emission norms for tractors are expected to come into force from April 1, 1998, as Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), while those for earth-moving equipment could come later during the course of the year. However, the final approval of the Union ministry of surface transport (MOST) is yet to be obtained.
