  FIIs target Corporation Bank, pickup 3% equity from mutual funds
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have acquired nearly 3% of Corporation Bank's equity shares. A chunk of these shares were offloaded by mutual funds, whose collective holding has come down by around 2.5%. The accumulation of the bank's stocks by FIIs has taken place over the last one month, which drove up the scrip to a high of Rs 116 on January 21.
  Finance firms step on the gas, increase fixed-deposit rates
After banks, it's now the turn of non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to raise their fixed deposit (FD) rates. Led by Cholamandalam Investment Trust and Lloyds Finance, a number of NBFCs have hiked their FD rates by 50-150 basis points.

Asia crisis affects capital flows to leading emerging markets
The Asian financial crisis led to a major decline in net private capital flows to leading emerging markets in 1997 and may prompt a moderate further decline this year. It will thus mark the first major retrenchment of capital flows by international investors to emerging markets this decade.
BSE for extension of Damani's term
Sebi is expected to take up the issue of making changes in the bye-laws of the BSE to enable a third term for the exchange's president, MG Damani. Members are expected to give their nod to the proposal at the bourse's EGM on February 2.

Tasty Bite turns savoury
Hindustan Lever's indirect acquisition of Tasty Bite Eatables has worked as a Midas touch for the ailing company. The not-so-frequently traded share zoomed up from Rs 3 to Rs 21 in just a few trading sessions. The mad rush for the scrip has forced the Mumbai Stock Exchange (BSE) to impose a special margin of Rs 6 from January 28.
