Sulzer CEO upbeat on Indian arm's prospects: Fritz Fahrni, president and CEO, Sulzer Ltd, was optimistic about Sulzer India's prospects, especially its chemtech division. He said it has a good scope since the domestic oil, gas and natural gas sectors are growing fast. He said the Khimline Pumps factory at Thane is undergoing modernisation and certain pump models will be exported globally. "Sulzer Ltd looks at Sulzer India's manufacturing activities as serving not only the Indian market, but also as a base for exports," he added.United Western Bank dematerialises shares: The United Western Bank Ltd, one of the older private sector banks based in Satara, has become the first private sector bank to dematerialise its shares following its recently concluded agreement with the National Securities Depository Ltd. The bank has paid one-time custody charges to NSDL so that shareholders will not be required to pay share-transfer fees.
19 new faces in state Cong list: Congress has decided tofield 19 new faces from various constituencies in Maharashtra for the coming Lok Sabha elections and has left eight out of 48 seats in the state to Samajwadi Party and Republican Party of India.
New department at NM Wadia Hospital: The NM Wadia Hospital is opening a department of minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic surgery) from January 31. Among the most commonly performed laproscopic surgery procedures are appendicectomy, hernia repair, gynaecological and bowel ailments. The department will be inaugurated by MJ Joshi.

Tanker strike affects transport of oils: Supplies of kerosene, diesel, petrol and other edible and non-edible oils in Maharashtra have started drying out and the shortage is severely felt in Mumbai as tankers stayed off the roads for the third day on Friday following an indefinite agitation launched by tanker owners' who are protesting against the transport commissionerate's drive to check the weight of the tankers.
Oil conservation fortnight: The oil industry in the state has scheduled several programmes to observe the Oil Conservation Fortnight which begins on February 1. This year the objective of the observance is ``Oil conservation for clean environment and better health.''
State observes `hutatma divas': Maharashtra joined the nation in paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 50th death anniversary on Friday. The state government observed it as the ``hutatma divas'' (Martyrs Day) and a two-minute silence was observed at 1100 hrs inrespect of those who laid down their lives during the freedom struggle of the country.
