MUMBAI, January 30: Expositions have a significant role to play in bringing together the various interests related to packaging. On the one hand, they help find out what is available and on the other they help identify what is needed, said Granoc, council general of Germany.Grano was addressing the delegates after the inaugural function of a two-day seminar on packaging for techno-economic growth here today.
He said technology development is the single major achievement of such an interaction and needs identification. It is in this background, the Indian Institute of Packaging continued its endeavour to promote packaging, among its other activities, through Indpack, he said.
Between 1972 and 1990, six such expositions were organised at Mumbai, Delhi, and Calcutta with 200 industries participating. The changed situation since 1990 and tremendous industrialisation posed demands on the packaging industries as well, he said. It was then that the institute decided to make Indpack an annual event and take itto more industrial centres on a rotational basis, he said.
The Nineties can be termed as the decade of collaborations and joint ventures. In the context of the liberalisation and the opening up of the economy, the Indian Institute of Packaging felt it was the need of the times to organise Indpack on an international level.
