Baume & Mercier to double retail outletsSwiss watchmaker Baume and Mercier is planning to expand its presence in India by doubling the number of retail outlets over the next one year. The company is also planning to launch major advertising and sales promotions in 1998-99. The company intends to set up seven to eight exclusive corners in large cities across the country, Geneva-based Baume and Mercier sales director Yves Cavadini said.
IMPACT withdraws plaint against Zee
Mumbai-based IMPACT has withdrawn its criminal complaint against Zee Network. IMPACT, on behalf of some of cable owners like Hinduja-owned CVO, had filed a complaint in the Kurla metropolitan magistrate court alleging violation of the Copyright Act by Zee Cinema by way of screening the film `Dushman', the copyright for which is held by the former.
MECL to raise authorised capital
Public sector Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd, which turned the corner recently after being in the˙red for years, has now become aRs 100-crore company. At an EGM held recently, the shareholders of the company cleared a resolution which will enable the company to raise its authorised share capital from Rs 60 crore to Rs 100 crore.
Satyam Infoway to commercialise DoT operations
Satyam Infoway has received the Technical Engineering Centre approval from the Department of Telecommunications for commercialising its operations. The network of Satyam Infoway has been tested by TEC, the technical wing of DoT, for its ability to provide value-added services in the country. The Satyam Infoway network boasts of a TCP/IP network developed on a mesh topology.
Hinduja's CVO now in Chennai
The Hinduja Group's cable channel, CVO (Cable Video Opera), was launched in Chennai recently. Metro Entertainment Network, a multi-system cable operator, has the sole distribution rights for Chennai. CVO is a Hindi channel from Cable Video India Ltd with a focus on film and film-based programmes. Besides this, it will also air a few non-filmtele-serials.
Spice Telecom unveils pre-paid schemeSpice Telecom has announced ``Spice Currency'', a new pre-paid scheme that facilitates freedom and flexibility to customers. Toyota Motor president to visit India
The president of Toyota Motor Corporation, Hiroshi Okuda, will be visiting Bangalore on February 12. His first visit to India is aimed at overseeing the progress of Toyota's Indian joint venture with Kirloskar. Toyota, over a period of 60 years, has set up 34 production facilities all over the world and has an employee base of over 70,000 people. The company recorded sales of 46 million vehicles worldwide which amounts to $98.7 billion in 1997.
