Bhujbal throws Thackeray a "dare": Congress leader Chhagan Bhujbal has challenged Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray to step out of Maharashtra for campaigning and dared him to make critical statements against Sonia Gandhi. Addressing an election meeting for Congress candidate Madhavrao Patil on Friday, Bhujbal said the Sena supremo had launched a scathing attack on Sonia Gandhi˙at public meetings in the state and even gone to the extent of saying he would prevent her from becoming prime minister of the country. Coming down heavily upon the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government, he alleged the hutment dwellers were unhappy as the government had snatched lands from them and sold it to builders to earn huge profits.Collector issues notice to Sena candidate: The Raigad collector has issued a show cause notice to Anant Tare, Shiv Sena candidate from Kulaba parliamentary constituency, for distributing calendars and carrying the photograph of a deity. Tare, allegedly distributed calendars with a pictureof goddess Ekavira, the main deity of fisherfolks, who form a considerable chunk of voters in the region. Apart from the picture of the goddess, the calendar also featured the picture of the Sena supremo Bal Thackeray along with that of˙Tare and the party symbol.
Thackeray slams door on Pak cricket team: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray said India's doors are shut for Pakistan cricket team. The sena chief was reacting to Pakistan cricket officials decision to suspend the final day's play between India +A+ and Karachi cricket association on February 5, to join their compatriots to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir. "If the Indian players have an iota of patriotism, they should come back immediately," Thackeray was quoted as saying in the party mouth-piece Saamna.
Shop gutted: Two shops were gutted on the side of platform one of the Kurla railway station at 2220 hrs, in north central Mumbai on Saturday. Fire brigade sources said one footwear shop and a cassettes shop weregutted in the fire.Three fire engines and two tankers were pressed into service.
