  Cabinet rejects agriculture ministry plan to cut urea prices
The Union cabinet has shot down Union agriculture ministry's proposal to reduce the price of urea (nitrogenous fertiliser) by Rs 100 per tonne. The cabinet had told a committee of secretaries (CoS) to look into the proposal and suggest whether the price cut was a viable option.
  Forex reserves up by $717 million
The Reserve Bank of India's foreign exchange reserves increased by $717 million to $27.83 billion for the week ended January 29, 1998. This was primarily due to rise in foreign-currency assets to the tune of $659 million.

Samtel Electron, Samtel Color merger ratio at 10:17
The swap ratio for the merger of Samtel Electron Devices with Samtel Color has been fixed at 10:17. The merger, which is subject to the approval of Delhi and Allahabad high courts and shareholders of both the companies, will be effective from April 1, 1997.
SEBI finetunes advertisement code for mutual funds
In the recently notified amendments to the mutual fund regulations, SEBI has ruled that all advertisements announcing the launch of a scheme and those which solicit subscription to the scheme shall disclose all the risk factors as required by the advertisement code.

Skindia GDR Index witnesses buoyant mood
Inspite of mixed emotions prevailing in the local market where the BSE sensex was in a constant jig, the GDR market witnessed a buoyant mood. The Skindia GDR index saw a record 55 point rise during the week to close at 835.73 points on February 5.
Microsoft reorganises; combines Windows, Net browser units
In a reorganization that is certain to attract close scrutiny, Microsoft Corp has brought its Internet browser business unit into the same group as its Windows operating system. The move is a part of a shift to focus the company's efforts on two broad initiatives that Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has dubbed the `digital nervous system' for business and the `Web lifestyle' for consumers.
