PUNE, Feb 8: The inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) has launched a multi-dimensional project called "Exploratory" aimed at propagating scientific curiosity. This was announced by VG Bhide, former vice-chancellor, Pune University, and executive president of the exploratory at a press conference at National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, TIFR, on Saturday."Exploratory" is neither a laboratory nor a museum. It is a place where children can explore and discover, design and fabricate, invent and innovate. The project constitutes building an advanced centre for science and technology, expected to be funded by the scientific and business community.
The project is likely to cost about Rs 65 crore and would be spread over about 50 acres of land. To supplement the above project, an ambitious publication drive is being launched, including books written by eminent men of science, like J Narlikar-director IUCAA, Govind Swarup and Bhide. Written in simple language, the books are aimed at atarget audience of children in the age-group 12-18 as well as their parents.
