LUCKNOW, February 8: Sonia Gandhi said on Sunday that the experiment of coalition governments at the Centre had failed as it had led to instability and reversed the country's development process and flayed some political parties for indulging in casteism, communalism and regionalism to serve their interests.``You have seen different non-Congress governments from 13 days to one-and-a-half-year. These have let India down before the international community by reversing the process of development,'' she told well-attended election rallies during the third leg of her electioneering in Uttar Pradesh.
Coalition partners spend most of their time in resolving their ideological differences and intra-party bickerings leaving the nation to suffer badly on many counts, she said.
``Only a single party rule of the Congress can give stability and prosperity to the country,'' Sonia Gandhi, accompanied by her son Rahul, told rallies at Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Pratapgarh and Mohanlalganj.
The Congress had proved time andagain it was the only party capable of taking India on the road to development and if voted to power in the coming election, it would once give the country a stable and strong government, she said.
The Congress star campaigner cautioned people against what she called nefarious designs of some political parties to divide the country on caste, communal and regional lines.
These parties had nothing to do with progress and development of the country and their main objective was to grab power by any means, she said.
Without naming anyone, Sonia Gandhi said˙they were responsible for demolition of a religious structure at Ayodhya a few years ago which was an ``unreligious act''. Religion-based politics had retarded the development of the country, she said adding nations which got independence after India were way ahead of ``us''.
She said˙casteism, communalism and regionalism were the main enemies of the country and urged the people to vote for˙the Congress which stood for secularism, communal harmony andlove and affection among different sections of society.
