Indian Oil Panipat refinery set to be commissioned

CHANDIGARH, February 8: The state-run Indian Oil Corporation's Panipat refinery is likely to be commissioned soon, according to a spokesman.The Rs 3,868-crore refinery project at Baholi near Panipat will produce about 8 lakh tonnes of petrol every year. It would also produce about 9 lakh tonnes of jet fuel, 6 lakh tonnes of kerosene and 21 lakh tonnes of diesel every year.

The spokesman said that executive director LK Raina, who was in Panipat recently, had disclosed that the refinery would make available about two lakh tonnes of cooking gas to the people. People not only from Haryana, but from entire north-west region including Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh will stand to benefit once the refinery is commissioned.

The pre-commissioning activities of various units of refinery have already started. The captive power plant and utilities required for primary units have also been commissioned.

The spokesman said that Indian Oil had extended financial assistanceto Civil hospital and Sanjay Gandhi hospital. It sponsored a state-level children mela at Kala Ama and the 16th national yoga championship organised by Haryana.

For the rehabilitation of oustees of villages whose land has been acquired by the IOC for refinery, the corporation was organising various programmes in coordination with the state government. He claimed that with the cooperation of administration and people of Baholi, the "smooth shifting of village Baholi" had been achieved. He said that the refinery would change the economy of the region and would make available petroleum products to people in Punjab, Haryana,Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
