  Be sure of your objectives before investing
Every investor is different from the other. These differences spawn the investment objectives for individual investors. MAT changes tax-planning pattern of companies
The introduction of minimum alternate tax (MAT) has brought radical changes in tax plannings of companies. MAT has closed many loopholes available to companies in their effort to avoid paying taxes. The 30% of book profit is taken as the taxable income of the assessee. The tax is around 12% on the company's profit. Few people are aware that this tax paid under MAT is allowed as tax credit in the future years subject to certain conditions.
Globalisation is the order of the day, says expert
David Bayer, director of Oxfam, a British NGO, an international expert on free trade has opined that though globalisation received a setback following the recent south-east Asian economic meltdown, the process was here to stay. He also called for urgent steps to remove the growing rich-poor divide.

Bal Thackeray snubs Sonia Gandhi, Kesri
The people of Katol were audience to a rare treat by Bal Thackeray. In a non-stop 45 minutes "entertainment" act, Thackeray imitated Kesri's walk and copied Sonia's accent. The Sena chief was campaigning for the Sena-BJP nominee Ashok Gujar at the Ramtek constituency.
