GWALIOR, February 19: With polling in the neighbouring Lok Sabha constituencies of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh over, police in the once dacoit-ridden Chambal-Gwalior belt has taken several preventive measures to check trans-border movement of criminals including sealing of borders in preparation for the February 28 polls here."Now that the polls in the neighbouring districts of UP and Rajasthan are over, there is a strong possibility of trans-border criminal movement to Gwalior, Guna, Bhind and Morena," deputy inspector-general of police (Gwalior range), Ram Niwas told PTI.
Of the 1,197 polling booths in Gwalior, 207 have been identified as hyper-sensitive, while 437 have been notified as sensitive. Similarly, 322 of the 1,152 booths in guna have been declared hyper-sensitive whereas 271 have been identified as sensitive.
At least 64 booths have been identified as hyper-sensitive and 149 declared sensitive in Shivpuri district, forming part of the Guna Lok Sabha constituency.
The DIG said the policehas taken several measures including sealing of borders and a strict watch on anti-social elements.
"We have seized 127 illegal weapons in the past fortnight itself," Ram Niwas said, adding 54 gun licenses were also cancelled during the period.
