"Do not stray from the path of tolerance": Star Congress campaigner Sonia Gandhi on Thursday appealed to the people "not to stray from its path of religious tolerance and universal love into the dark jungles of hatred." Sonia said, "It is not an individual but an ideology which killed Mahatma Gandhi. The same ideology is raising its head again."

"Congress known to topple governments": BJP national generalsecretary Pramod Mahajan has said that pulling down governments was aCongress strategy and it has a history of withdrawing support to manygovernments. Citing examples from Charan Singh to IK Gujral, Mahajan at anelection rally alleged "Deve Gowda was pulled down only because SitaramKesri did not like Gowda's face. If Kesri does not like the face of Gowda, people of India do not like Kesri's face and women are showing Kesri's photographs to frighten their children."

Security for polls: Thirty companies of Central Reserve Police Force and two companies of Rapid Action Force would bedeployed in Maharashtra for the two phases of Lok Sabha polls scheduled for February 22 and 28. "We will ensure smooth conduct of polls and so far no incidents of disrupting of election process have been reported," special inspector general of police SG Naravane said.

Kalmadi hopes for active role after polls: Former Union railway minister Suresh Kalmadi foresees an active role for himself after the coming Lok Sabha elections and would exploit his contacts with Congressmen to shore up support for Atal Behari Vajpayee-led government at the Centre.

United Western Bank computerisation: The United Western Bank Ltd signed an agreement with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, for the comprehensive computerisation of the bank's operations. It aims at providing information technology for the entire banking operations and bank wide networking. The salient features of the technology will be the inclusion of smartcards, ATMs, inter-connectivity of branches, Internet bankingand decision-support systems.

AA rating for Kinetic Engineering NCDs: The "AA" rating assigned by Crisil to the proposed Rs 150-million non-convertible debenture issue of Kinetic Engineering Limited has been reaffirmed. The rating indicates high safety with regard to the timely payment of interest and principal. The "FAA" rating assigned to Kinetic Engineering Limited's fixed deposit programme has been reaffirmed. The rating indicates that the safety regarding the timely payment of interest and principal is high.
