With multinational companies stepping into the publishing business in India and exports of Indian publications touching Rs 151 crore, job opportunities in the industry have increased manifold. The pathway to success in the publishing industry is strewn with challenges.
  Mainstream publishers eyeing money on the Net
The recent recent conference on interactive publishing in Zurich - "The Push for Revenues" - proved one point. There was only one thing on the mind of most of the 300 people present: could they as mainstream publishers, actually make money on the Net? For most, that means supplementing meagre advertising revenues with subscription revenues.

Selling strategies that market leaders follow
Broadly speaking, firms can only be either followers or leaders. Market leaders usually have the largest share of their total markets, most often, in excess of 50%. Additionally, they are likely to be consistently first onto the market with new products or with new developments of existing ones.

FDA think-tank backs new Synercid antibiotic
Advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have voted to recommend limited approval of the first new antibiotic designed to battle resistant bacteria, Synercid. It is receiving expedited review by the FDA and could be approved within six months. The antibiotic is the first of a new class of antibiotics called streptogramins.

20th Century fund to launch income scheme
Twentieth Century Mutual Fund plans to launch its maiden income scheme soon after the change in the ownership pattern of 20th Century Asset Management Corporation is formally effected. The launch of this open ended debt scheme is aimed at expanding the family of products currently available from the fund.
