Chennai, Feb 23: Siemens Telecom Ltd (STL), the joint venture company between Siemens AG of Germany and Bharti Telecom Ltd, has targeted a turnover of Rs 100 crore from its telephones division for the year ending September, 1998.

Launching the Siemens Euroset 800 series and Beetel's Emerald brands of telephones in Chennai, Siemens Telecom general manager (south) NP Singh said that with the addition of the new models, the company plans to become the biggest player in the telephones market in India.

He also said that the company is shifting its focus from the metros to the up-country markets in a drive to push up the volumes.

According to Singh, the pricing of the new range of telephones is very customer-friendly. They offer more benefits at lower costs and this will drive the sales higher in this fiscal year. He expects the turnover from the analog telephones division to jump from Rs 20 crore in 1996-97 to Rs 35 crore in 1997-98.

With the cellular phones division, the turnover of the company is set togo up to Rs 100 crore.

STL manufactures basic telephones, cordless phones, answering machines and cellular phones. It has a network of 65 distributors, 1900 retailers and 75 authorised franchisees.
