Amoco-Enron to modify project: Amoco-Enron Solar Development Project of USA has proposed to modify its 50-mw solar electric power project. It will incorporate a thermal project of the same capacity to be set up in Jaisalmer to make available uninterrupted power supply to Rajasthan SEB.GDP to grow by 5%: The Central Statistical Organisation said on Monday that advance estimates showed a growth of 5 per cent in GDP in 1997/98 (April-March) over 1996/97. A government statement, announcing advance CSO estimates, said that per capita income adjusted for inflation was estimated to grow by 3.1 per cent in 1997/98 over the previous year.

The panel has conducted a probed into the communal riots of December, 1992, and January, 1993, and the subsequent bomb blasts.SC clears Cogentrix plan: The Supreme Court on Mondaygave a green signal for setting up of the Cogentrix thermal power project in Karnataka. The apex court dismissed a special leave petition against setting up of the project.

Fall in capital goods import: Imports of capital goods, as well as those for setting up projects goods, fell sharply in April-November, 1997, over the previous corresponding period. Total imports went up from $24,146.09 million to $25,732.77 million.
Goldmakes marginal recovery: Gold prices recovered marginally on the bullion market on Monday on fresh buying even as prices of silver dropped further on weak overseas advices. Prices of standard gold, after a better start, finished at Rs 3,975, showing a small gain of Rs 5 over the last close of Rs 3,970.
Railways exceed freight target: The Railways moved 351.92 mt of revenue-earning freight during the first 10 months of the current financial year as against the target of 350.80 mt (332.99 mt).
Tourism claims questioned: Tourist arrival figures released by the government do not reflect the true state of the tourism industry, according to Indian Association of Tour Operators. "About 50 per cent of the 2.3 million tourist arrivals in 1997 were those termed as `visiting friends and relatives', which include some NRIs too. They are not tourists in the real sense," said IATO president Subhash Goyal.
