Digital Equipment bags Citicorp orderDigital Equipment (India) Ltd has bagged an order from Citicorp Information Technology Industries Ltd (CITIL) for the supply of 100 Pentium II range of PC 5510s. The machines will be deployed for the development of various applications including Internet and E-Commerce systems, according to a company release. The Digital PC 5510 is targeted at power users for advanced business and data intensive applications in networked environments. It is based on Intel's latest 440LX chip-set with AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) support, and is offered with a host of features like SecureON for remote system wake-up. SecureBOX for hardware tamper detection, support for SDRAM and Ultra DMA disks.
Wipro Peripherals unveils new printer:
Wipro Peripherals has launched Wipro EX200SX, a nine-pin, 136 column printer with the power to print 240 columns per second. Wipro Peripherals has brought down the retail price of the printer to Rs 8,500 by making design modificationsand replacing expensive components with cost-effective, quality ones. It comes with new generation features such as Plug-n-Play for Windows 95, drivers for both Windows and old DOD applications like WordStar and Lotus to ensure compatibility with old as well as new software.
Peutronics sets up UK arm:
The Bangalore-based Peutronics Pvt Ltd has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary in the UK. The company, which had launched Tally, a codeless accounting software package, will invest around 300,000 pounds sterling for the new subsidiary at Wimbledon called Peutronics (UK) Ltd. It will cater to the UK, European, African and Mid-East markets. Tally's main strength is simple accounting without codes. It gives an incredibly simple interface for complex accounting tasks, making accounting information accessible with low training requirements.
KP Singh takes over as Rites MD:
KP Singh has taken over as the new managing director of public sector Rail India Technical and Economic Services Ltd (Rites),it was officially announced on Monday. Singh, who was earlier chief engineer of Eastern Railway, has held important positions in the railways during his 32-year tenure. He belongs to the Indian Railway Service of Engineers. During his past association with Rites, Singh represented the company in Iraq and Botswana. He also has extensive experience in the development and operation of railway systems.
New orders at Wapcos:
Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Ltd (Wapcos), a mini ratna PSU under the ministry of water Resources, during the year 1997-98, registered new business of over Rs 62 crore till the end of January 1998. These included a number of long-term contracts, with over Rs 7 crore in the first month of 1998.
Cathay Pacific bags award:
Cathay Pacific has been awarded the Passenger Service award for 1997 by Air Transport World, a leading international aviation trade magazine. On behalf of all Cathay Pacific ground and inflight service staff, managing director DavidTurnbell and two staff members will receive the award in Singapore on February 23.
NorthWest, KLM alter schedule:
Northwest Airlines and its partner KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have announced a change in the Northwest WorldPerks frequent flyer programme for residents of Europe, Africa, India and the Middle East. Effective June 1, all Northwest WorldPerks members living in these regions will be invited to join KLM Flying Dutchman programme at a level commensurate with their standing in the WorldPerks programme and with full credit for all current available mileage.
A clarification:
This refers to the article entitled "Was there insider trading in the shares of Indian Aluminium?" which appeared in the February 20 edition of the paper. Imperial Corporate Finance & Services P Ltd has sought to clarify that their firm is engaged in corporate finance and advisory services and are not engaged in the secondary market trading. In view of this, the possibility of insider trading, as suggested inthe last para of the said article, is ruled out in the case of Imperial and Kannan. The paper, for its part, would like to clarify that the headline was not a reference to anyone connected with Indal.
