TV channels switch on better cost management

Our Corporate Bureau
New Delhi, Feb 25: With the election euphoria calming down following Election Commission's (EC) decision to bar political parties from advertising on television (TV), most of the channels are concentrating on efficient cost management.

The two traditional rivals Zee and Star are once again in the fray to grab market shares as well as commercial revenue with their respective 24-hour news channels.

While there is a possibility of Star folding up its 24-hour channel on completion of the elections, Zee has decided to continue with it.

A highly-placed ZEE TV official told The Financial Express that its new channel has the advantage over the other channels in terms of lower cost of programming since most of it is done in-house.

The official further said the channel is part of the company's long-term plan envisaging multiple packaging of the Zee brandname. This is being done to have a presence in the sphere of entertainment and also in news and current affairs, he added.
