GUWAHATI, March 1: More than 70,000 employees of regional rural banks today threatened to launch an agitation if the new government failed to pay heed to their long-pending demands.General secretary of the All-India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association DK Mukherjee told newsmen here their demands include parity of wage structure as per the tribunal award, pension benefit for rural bank staff at par with public sector bank staff and formation of a negotiating forum.
"We will negotiate with the new government. But if our genuine demands are not met, there will be no alternative but to start an agitation, including strikes, along with other regional rural bank associations," he said.
The association also demanded restructuring of the RRBs' by amalgamating all the 196 branches to form the national rural bank.
