Three former PMs make it to Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Mar 3: All the three former prime ministers in the fray besides present incumbent I K Gujral have made it to the 12th Lok Sabha beating their rivals by comfortable margins.

Gujral won from Jalandhar in his home state of Punjab beating his Congress rival Umrao Singh by 1,18,839 votes. He polled 3,08,046 votes against 1,99,207 votes secured by Singh.

BJP's prime ministerial candidate Atal Behari Vajpayee has already established an unbeatable lead of two lakh votes over Samajwadi Party nominee and film-maker Muzaffar Ali in his traditional seat Lucknow.

Former prime minister and National Front chairman H D Deve Gowda (JD) defeated his Congress rival H D Srikantiah by over 31,000 votes in Hassan constituency of Karnataka.

Chandrashekhar and the lone Samajwadi Janata Party candidate in Uttar Pradesh has retained his traditional Ballia seat beating his BJP rival Ram Krishan by a margin of 29,564 votes.
