Metamor of US to set up software schoolThe US-based $1.6-billion Metamor Solutions Inc and the Andhra Pradesh government have signed an agreement to set up the Metamor School of EOracle which are also setting up their own schools of excellence at the Indian Institute of Information Technology. The institute will offer both short and long-term courses apart from undertaking industry sponsored research projects. Metamor is expected to invest over Rs 3 crore on the school, slated to commence operations in six months time.
Computer solution unveiled:
HCL Infosolutions has unveiled the `HCL Complete' computer solution. Priced at Rs 39,900, its features include a 200 mhz pentium processor with MMX technology. This new desktop is a comprehensive ready to run computing solution that is pre-installed with software including MS Windows, MS Excel and MS works. The price includes the cost of an SVGA mono monitor and comes with a free Samsung inkjet printer. The offer includes various value addedservices like `Telesupport', the bulletin board service `Fidonet' and one year onsite warranty.
Australian mining firms to conduct surveys:
Australian mining majors BHP and Rio Trinto will conduct aerial surveys for identifying base metals in Rajasthan. This follows indications of the presence of copper, zinc, lead and gold reserves in the state. Hindustan Zinc has already completed its aerial survey in the state. Officials here said Hindustan Zinc's survey report was quite encouraging. Highly-placed sources said that apart from BHP and Rio Trinto of Australia some other mining majors have shown interest. Shell of Holland has also proposed to sink a well at Guda Malani in the Barmer district for gas and petrol. The state government also plans to set up a gassification plant with the help of Gas Authority of India (Gail) for lignite.
South Eastern Coalfields, Bina Power sign pact:
South Eastern Coalfields Ltd has signed an agreement with Bina Power Supply Company to supply 2.7 milliontonnes of coal per annum for a period of 30 years. The agreement is the first legally enforceable coal-supply agreement based on internationally accepted principles, a release said. While the agreement deals with supply of coal, Bina power will have to enter into a separate agreement with the railways for transport of coal to the power station. Bina Power is setting up two 289 mega watt (mw) power stations at Bina in Madhya Pradesh.
Bacardi Martini set to launch rum:
Bacardi Martini India Ltd, a joint venture between Bacardi Martini and Gemini Distillers, is set to launch Bacardi rum in the country. The venture was set up in 1992. The family of Bacardi Rums which include White, Dark, Aged, High-Proof, Spiced and New Limon are at present manufactured at 8 distilleries across the world -- in the Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Spain and Trinidad. Bacardi's plant in Nanjangud, Karnataka will be the ninth on the list.
