  BSE plans to revamp online surveillance system
In an attempt to strengthen the internal risk-management system of the exchange, the Bombay Stock Exchange has decided to revamp its online surveillance system. The exchange has invited bids from software majors to introduce an exclusive surveillance package.
  Banks continue to refuse `at par' facility for NBFCs
Notwithstanding the Reserve Bank's directive restoring the `at par' facility in September last year, banks are still reluctant to offer the facility to investors. According to the Association of Leasing and Financial Services Companies, even top-rated non-banking finance companies are being denied this facility.

Institutional buying pushes up pivotals
Select pivotals gained moderately on good investment support from foreign funds and domestic institutions at the National Stock Exchange on Monday. The NSE extended trading timings by half-an-hour from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm to compensate the loss of connectivity on the very small aperture terminals (vsats).
Crisil downgrades Arvind Mills Rs 100cr debenture rating to AA
The Credit Rating Information Services of India Ltd (Crisil) has downgraded the Rs 100-crore non-convertible debenture (NCD) programme of Arvind Mills Ltd (AML) from AA+ to AA. However, the rating agency has reaffirmed the P1+ rating assigned to Arvind Mills' Rs 35-crore commercial paper (CP) plan.

Bank of Japan initiates probe into insider-trading
Japan's central bank governor Yasuo Matsushita said on Monday that the bank was investigating reports that its officials may have given out insider trading information in exchange for lavish entertainment.

"Credit rating agencies are important, but not absolute"
Failures of Japanese financial institutions and Asia's economic turmoil have drawn attention to credit rating agencies, but their assessments should not be seen as absolute, an official at a leading Japanese credit ratings group says.
