MRTPC enquiry notice against BPL

Our Corporate Bureau
New Delhi, Mar 12: The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission has issued a notice of enquiry against BPL for unfair and restrictive trade practices on claims made about its Excel batteries.

The notice was issued following a complaint filed by Duracell. The company had raised objections to BPL Excel's television commercial where the batteries manufactured by competitors were shown in disparaging manner.

BPL had claimed that its alkaline batteries, Excel, were the longest lasting batteries in the world.

The commission has also directed BPL to submit its batteries to a joint evaluation along with Duracell to a laboratory in Sweden.
