HLL needs to learn some humility
Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) has cut a very sorry figure in the insider trading case in which SEBI has just pronounced a verdict of guilty. SEBI has comprehensively addressed all the arguments put forth by HLL in its defence. The company would, thus, be making a big mistake if it sticks to the stand that it did nothing wrong whatsoever.
Good governance
The display of political brinkmanship by the AIADMK underlines the fact that the BJP-led government at the centre will be buffeted by various contradictory pulls and pushes. One example of such contentious issues is the Cauvery water dispute.

Sterlite's bid for Indal has brought the financial performance of group company Madras Aluminium Company Limited ( Malco - part of Sterlite group ) under the microscope. The company registered an increase of 50% in the net sales to Rs 121.85 crore for the current half yearly result (from July to December 1997) as against the previous year (April to September 1996).
