Onward Technologies ties up with US firm: The $4.50-billion software major Computer Associates has entered into a marketing tie-up with domestic network solution company, Onward Technologies Ltd. According to the agreement between the two infotech majors, Onward will "help Computer Associates penetrate its existing base in the country". This is Computer Associates's third such strategic alliance, the other two being, Microland and Datapro.Dilute centre stake to 30% in banks, FIs, says Assocham: The Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) has called for dilution of government stake in banks and financial institutions to 30 per cent through fresh issue of shares. The chamber, in a detailed note to the RBI working group on harmonising of role and operations of banks and FIs said, issues of fresh equity by these institutions would bring in additional cap ital.
Escort's new tractor plant: The foundation stone of Escorts Ltd's third tractor plant at Ranjangaon near Pune waslaid by the company's chairman Rajan Nanda on Thursday. The company will invest around Rs 170 crore in the plant. Commercial production is expected to start by June 1999. Escorts plans to sell 55,000 tractors in fiscal 1998-99, against a capacity of the Faridabad plant of 60,000 units. The Pune unit has an initial capacity of 12,000 units, and will be subsequently increased to 18,000 units in the next phase.
Glaxo show on tuberculosis: Glaxo India will organise a special screening of a new film on tuberculosis -- "One in three" -- on March 24, which is observed as world TB day. The film produced by Paul Ellis Associates (PEA), is an independent production, whose accuracy and independence is demonstrated by the World Health Organisation's (WHO) support for it.
Tata IBM show: The Tata IBM Ltd is conducting a multi-city IBM Solutions Forum that will showcase a wide range of technologies. The event will exhibit IBM AS/400, RS/6000 and Netfinity range of PC servers and IBM PCs and Thinkpads.Solutions on display include international packages like CATIA (a CAD Cam package) and DCS 400 (a Foxpro Clipper AS/400 migration tool). IBM Solutions Forum 98 will also demonstrate how companies can use the Internet and Intranet to improve their marketing, customer service and sales. ``IBM's technology and solutions for the Indian industries provide a competitive edge in this era of globalisation not only for large MNCs but also for small and medium business organisations across the world,'' says Nipun Mehrotra, general manager, systems, Tata IBM Ltd. APC gets prestigious ranking: The $ 707 million American Power Conversion (APC) has announced that Forbes ASAP has recognised APC in its prestigious ranking of the nation's top 100 most dynamic technology company. APC ranked twelfth among computer peripheral firms. In the survey, 200 analysts,money managers and venture capitalists were asked to rate more than 900 companies. The companies were rated on six factors including responsiveness to change, market opportunity, marketing expertise, human capital, alliances and partnerships and prospects for growth.
Dubai initiative on tourism: In an initiative to build up Dubai's business and tourism links with India, Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has opened a new office in Mumbai. The office will operate in association with a consultancy partner, Indian Public Affairs Network. According to DTCM, India is already a leading source of visitors and inward investment for Dubai as well as a key trading partner and the new office will add momentum to the rapidly growing relationship.
Novell Inc unveils NetWare: Novell Inc, has introduced NetWare for small business 4.11, the second release of its easy to use solution for small businesses. The new product provides users a collaborative network environment withdial-up Internet accesses, web publishing, and e-mail communications with employees, customers and partners. According to the company, the new release of the product will enable multiple users at a site to share applications, files, printers, Internet access and faxing from their computers.
