  Markets can look forward to re-rating under BJP
The swearing in of the BJP-led coalition has dispelled to some extent the hesitancy that had clouded the investment scene. The disappointment over the absence of a majority party and the continuation of coalition politics once again cannot be easily dispelled however.
  "We want to make it easy for Indian firms to invest abroad"
MNCs cannot be given preferred status in India. But this does not mean that we want to throw MNCs out, said Yashwant Sinha, the new finance minister on his first day in North Block.

Ministers want to play it by the ear
Finance minister Yashwant Sinha summarised the attitude of most new ministers when he told reporters that before initiating any policy action, he would have to figure out the ground realities. He needed to know the exact fiscal balance before committing himself.

Pepping up exports is Hegde's top priority
The new government will accord the highest priority to the task of accelerating exports, commerce minister Ramakrishna Hegde indicated after assuming office yesterday. Hegde's statement is significant coming as it did in the backdrop of the rather dismal export performance in the first 10 months of the current fiscal.

Prasar Bharati needs recast: Sushma Swaraj
The New BJP-led coalition government will undertake a complete review of the Prasar Bharati Act and functioning of the Broadcasting Corporation of India (BCI). Information and broadcasting minister Sushma Swaraj said she will hold a meeting with BCI chairman Nikhil Chakravarty in the next two-three days to discuss key issues relating to the Prasar Bharati Act.
