Cidco plans to invite bids for projects worth Rs 1,860 crore

Sanjay Jog
MUMBAI, March 30: The City & Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco), a state government nodal agency for infrastructure development, will invite fresh tenders for projects with an investment of Rs 1,860 crore within a month.

Cidco will float fresh tenders for a water-transport terminal (Nerul navigation centre) costing Rs 300 crore, an international convention centre- cum-five-star hotel with a capacity of 12,000 persons costing Rs 1,100 crore, a Seawood railway station-cum-super market for Rs 180 crore, a Dapoli garden (amusement park) costing Rs 100 crore and a golf course estimated at Rs 110 crore.

A Cidco official said the corporation had received only one bid from Boss Technology for the proposed international convention centre. Cidco, however, rejected it after scrutiny as it was found to be non-workable. It did not receive a single bid for the water terminal, Seawood railway station-cum- super market, Dapoli amusement park and gold course/country club.

The official said that Cidco had sold222 bids to investors during the two-day international conference, Advantage Maharashtra in February 1997 for 15 projects at an investment of Rs 5,800 crore.

Cidco received 19 bids, of which 12 were pre-qualified for the international airport costing Rs 2,215 crore, international exhibition centre, Rs 300 crore, Turbhe railway station-cum-super market, Rs 267 crore, Kharghar railway station cum-super market, Rs 218 crore, and Dronagiri Technology Park, Rs 120 crore.

Cidco's efforts to bid housing projects did not pay off as the response was lukewarm. These projects include the Seawood housing scheme estimated at Rs 300 crore and the Ulwe housing scheme at Rs 120 crore. For the proposed international airport at Kopar in Navi Mumbai, Cidco has received four pre-qualified bids from Reliance with an US consortium, Ispat, also with an American consortium, Rishi Value Marketing with German partners and Boss Technology with British collaborators. Cidco will soon invite technical and financial bids for theproject.

The corporation will shortly float tenders for setting up an international information-technology (IT) park at Navi Mumbai with an investment of Rs 500 crore. Cidco will make available two satellite-earth stations through the electronics department, of which the former will bear 75 per cent installation cost. The proposed earth station may be operational from June 1, 1998.

The land will be available to the investor company in the proposed IT park with basic amenities. Besides, the investor would be provided office space in the special complex erected near Vashi railway station.

According to the official, development of the IT park will generate direct employment to 16,000, people while 30,000 related jobs will also be created.
