NEW DELHI, March 30: India and Canada signed two agreements on Monday envisaging funds inflow of $12 million over four years, funnelled through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).The telecommunications framework project agreement ($4.5million) is designed to assist India in creating an environment conducive to increased private sector involvement in communications sector.Under this project,DOT and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will be linked with the Canadian Radio-television Commission (CRTC) and Canada's department of industry.
The telecommunications operations project ($7.5 million) will technically assist DOT in expanding rural telephony penetration and in meeting the growing demand for trained personnel.
