Trinath Mishra is new CBI chief: Trinath Mishra, special director of the CBI, was on Monday appointed investigating agency's director. A 1965 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer, Mishra will hold office from April 1, a home ministry spokesman said. He succeeds DR Karthikeyan, who had headed the special-investigation team, which investigated Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. Mishra, who was the National Police Academy director in Hyderabad, joined CBI in December last year.

Nadeem moves court: Music director Nadeem Akhtar Saifee and prime accused in the Gulshan Kumar murder case, has moved a sessions court in Mumbai for the first time to defend himself. In an application before the court, Nadeem urged for a direction to VSNL and MaxTouch cellular-phone services to provide a printout of certain telephone calls made during eight months from January 1997 on the basis of which he was implicated. Nadeem is now based in London and fighting an extradition case filed by the Indian government.

Rajudenies he's offloading shares: The promoters of Raasi Cement on Monday denied media reports that they had started offloading their shares in the company. "This is a baseless and motivated report, calculated to mislead the shareholders. There is no question of selling my stake in the company in favour of anyone, nor are we talking to anyone," Raasi chairman BV Raju said in a statement.

Federation opposes BoB move: The Indian National Bank Employees Federation, a Congress labour arm, has vowed to oppose the Bank of Baroda move to break away from the industry-wide wage pack. "If the intended individual bank-wage pact is introduced, there will be chaos and widespread unrest ... This is a joint game plan of the government, IBA and foreign banks," an INBEF release said on Monday.
