Commodity markets to observe strike

MUMBAI, April 6: Commodity markets of the city will remain closed on April 8 and 9 in protest against the levy of four per cent sales tax on essential branded commodities like atta, maida, imported sugar, wet dates, bedsheets other than composite mills and textiles by the state in its budget proposal for 1998-99.
