Counter-insurgency fund for armed forces staff

NEW DELHI, April 9: Armed forces personnel would soon be getting counter-insurgency allowance. This was announced by the Union defence minister George Fernandes at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday. He stated that the ministry of defence has decided in principle that forces would be given this allowance along with the field allowance wherever applicable. At present, the forces either of the two.

On his return from a prolonged tour of the north-eastern region, the minister pointed out that the allowance would come from the defence budget only. About further hike, he said that in the interim budget there has been a hike of about 10 per cent making the budget Rs 40,000 crore from the existing Rs 36,000 crore.
