Indica likely to flaunt a clock

Vivek Law
MUMBAI, April 12: The Tatas have decided to add a clock into its dream small car. There are also plans to incorporate a remote liquid crystal display, which will not come in-built into the audio system but will be placed about 4-6 inches above it. It is being done to give a "unique" feel.

According to Telco sources, work is currently on in full swing to get the various accessories in place. Accessories have become an integral part of a car in today's market where a small feature makes all the difference.

Talks are also on with some seat-belt manufacturers to get the safety element worked out as "safety" and "style" are the car's pre-requisities.

"Time is of essence. Unfortunately none of the cars -- save for the Ford Escort and the Opel Astra -- provides consumers with a clock. Some music systems do come with an in-built watch, but that's not enough. We realise the value of time. Which is why we plan to provide a consumer with a clock at just the right position in his Indica," said a source.

Telco hasapparently told some of the audio firms that have queued up to bag the original equipment manufacturer's contract, to design a remote liquid crystal display, which is not in-built into the system.

"It is more a question of style and an attempt to look unique. We are trying to get such a system ready. Several international designs are being studied to zero in on the desired product," said an industry source.
