CIL to supply 7.36 mt coking coal to SAIL: Coal India Ltd has signed an agreement for supplying 7.37 million tonne of washed and direct feed coking coal to SAIL. The conditions of the agreement between the public sector giants include a commitment from Coal India to improve the ash content of its coal supplies and a penalty for failing to comply with that commitment. Coal India is committed to keep the ash content of its coking coal down to roughly 18 per cent.BHEL thermal sets: A record power generation by thermal generating sets manufactured by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), has narrowed down the gap between demand and supply of power in the country, during the year 1997-98. These thermal sets, contributing nearly 79 per cent to India's thermal power generation, registered an all-time high PLF of 65.5 per cent.
Kamdhenu Ispat to set up steel plant: Kamdhenu Ispat Ltd has formed an expansion plan to set up a new ultra modern steel plant with foreign technologicalcollaboration. The estimated project cost of the plant is Rs 50 crore. The new unit will be installed in Bhiwari, Rajasthan and is expected to commence commercial operations by 2000.
Fischer Systems awaits FIPB nod: US-based Fischer Systems India and GeoLogik Software GmbH of Germany are awaiting FIPB clearance to set up software development facilities at the Kerala government-sponsored Technopark in Thiruvananathapuram. Fischer Systems India Ltd will be set up as a 100 per cent subsidiary of Fischer International Systems Corporation, US. GeoLogik Software will set up a 100 per cent subsidiary and specialises in software packages for geo science-related applications.

Mandovi Motors races ahead with Maruti sales: The Bangalore-based Mandovi Motors has further strengthened its position by recording the highest sales in South India for Maruti cars. Mandovi has sold 8,468 Marutis in Karnataka during the year 1997-98. This apart, it has sold 559 three-box cars (Esteem & 1000) during the year which is also the highest by a Maruti dealer in South India. The company is one of the leading authorised dealers for Maruti in the country with a turnover of over Rs 250 crore.

HEC bags NINL contract: Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), the ailing Ranchi-based public sector company, has started fiscal 1998-99 with a bang. It has bagged three Nilachal Ispat Nigam Ltd(NINL) contracts worth Rs 27.07 crore in the face of stiff international competition. HEC will make the raw material handling plant, four roll crushers and hot metal ladle and a few other items for the iron and steel plant that NINL is setting up at Duburi in Orissa.
