BDA reports 115% growth in turnover

Calcutta, April 18: BDA Ltd, the owner of Officer's Choice Prestige Whisky brand, on Friday reported a 115 per cent growth in turnover in 1997-98 over the previous year. According to a company press release, sales increased to Rs 334.57 crore in 1997-98 from Rs 155.69 crore in 1996-97.

In 1997-98, over two million cases of Officer's Choice Prestige Whisky brand were sold, a growth of 53 per cent over the previous year. It is now ranked amongst the top three regular range whisky brands in the country, the other two being Bagpiper Whisky and Directors' Special. Around 55 million of whisky are sold in India every year.

Launched in October 1988, sales of Officer's Choice Whisky topped one million cases in 1990-91. It became the leading brand in Maharashtra in 1991-92. It was at its peak in 1992-93 when it recorded total sales of around 1.7 million cases. Sales suffered in 1993 following litigation over the ownership of the brand.

BDA's main distillery is at Aurangabad in Maharashtra.
