Cold-pressed castor oil to be made in India

April 19: SPS Franch Castor Product, a south-based company, has developed the manufacturing process for cold pressed castor oil. This is the first such domestic company that has developed the know-how for cold pressed castor oils. The oils have very high medicinal properties.

The product is currently manufactured only in the US and Germany. ARE Clinic of US are currently carrying on trials on the product. ``Cold pressed castor oil can be used for multiple therapies,'' says Samsen Papli, chairman and managing director of the company. It can be used for treatment of aids, though it does not eradicate the dieases it delays the inevitable, adds Papli. The company has its plant at Erode with a manufacturing capacity of 2000 tpa. Castor seeds required for manufacturing cold pressed castor oil needs to be of higher grade, which is available in plenty in the vicinity of the plant.

SPS Franch Castor is planning to market the product in the country by setting up its own network, while for exports it is planning torope in a partner. The main attraction of the product, apart from the fact that is available in the country for the first time is its cost. While the product sells for around $4 for every 100 ml, the Inidan company is planning to sell it between the range of Rs 22 to Rs 36 per 100 ml depending on the type of formulation.
