Delhi chemical market displays mixed tendency

April 19: In lack-lustre trading, the local chemical market displayed a mixed tendency during last week.

Sodium hydro sulphite Demosha and Kalali marked up by Rs 2 at Rs 71 each a kg because of a hike in prices by producers coupled with slack demand from gur units due to off season. Safolite slipped by Rs 2 at Rs 75 a kg due to poor offtake. Sodium hydro sulphite China and Gulshan remained subdued at their previous week closings.

In the wake of likely ban on the sale of tobacco and gutka by the union health ministry, menthol flake, medium and bold tumbled down by Rs 35/45 at Rs 400, Rs 415 and Rs 435 a kg respectively due to slack demand from gutka units. Similarly, mentha oil, ended the week with a loss of Rs 15 at Rs 295 a kg as prices in the producing mandies of UP ruled easy. Arrival of new mentha crop is expected by the end of May or in the first week of June.

DMO was down by Rs 7 at Rs 85 a kg due to poor offtake and thymol dipped by Rs 40 at Rs 360 a kg due to weak demand from exporters coupledwith selling pressure from the stockists. Citric acid China in the beginning recorded a sharp rise of Rs 100 at Rs 3,450 per 50 kg but later, on inflow of about 40/50 tonnes of goods in the market coupled with slack demand, reverted back to its previous close of Rs 3,350 per 50 kg. Citric acid of Bharat Starch, as compared to China, was down by Rs 250 at Rs 3,100 per 50 kg while Bombay Dyeing citric acid held steady at Rs 3,850 per 50 kg. Titanium dioxide China, K.brand and TTK looked up by Rs 1/2 at Rs 73, Rs 78 and Rs 80 per kg respectively on zooming demand from paint and plastic industry and titanium dioxide RC-822 and TR-92 firmed up by Rs 1/2 at Rs 116 and Rs 114 a kg respectively on better demand.y
