Share prices fall further on increased selling

MUMBAI, April 24: Share prices declined further moderately on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) here on Friday due to increased selling pressure.

The NSE-50 opened better at 1182.15, but dropped to a low of 1144.85 and closed at 1173.80, showing a fall of 8.30 points from the previous close of 1182.10. The dollar NSE-50 (defty) index dropped by 7.20 to close at 1024.70 from 1031.90, while the midcap index fell by 28.65 to close at 1619.20 from the previous close of 1647.85.

The total turnover on Friday was Rs 1,726.09 crore from 740.39 lakh shares in 2,48,589 trades. Debentures traded value was Rs 13.77 lakh.

In all, 217 securities advanced, 880 declined and 59 remained unchanged. About 163 securities had hit their price bands on Friday.

The five top most traded scrips were ITC with a turnover of Rs 374.04 crore, Reliance Industries Rs 193.58 crore, State Bank Rs 129.14 crore and Satyam Computers Rs 102.37 crore.

Other actively traded securities were Castrol (Rs 58.94 crore), ACC (Rs 57.79 crore),Tata Tea (Rs 53.89 crore), Glaxo (Rs 51.27 crore), LML (Rs 48.09 crore), Hindustan Lever (Rs 38.68 crore), Penta Software (Rs 37.02 crore), ICICI (Rs 33.64 crore), TISCO (Rs 28.93 crore), Infosys Technology (Rs 25.39 crore), TELCO (Rs 25.09 crore), Sterlite Industries (Rs 24.98 crore), MTNL (Rs 21.82 crore), BPL (Rs 17.02 crore), BSES (Rs 16.66 crore), L&T (Rs 15.51 crore), BHEL (Rs 14.36 crore), Escorts (Rs 13.93 crore), Tata Chemicals (Rs 13.81 crore), Digital Equipment (Rs 12.87 crore) and Bajaj Auto (Rs 12.64 crore).

Friday's top five Nefty gainers were L&T Rs 248.75 (Rs 245.40), State Bank Rs 295.20 (Rs 291.40), TVS Suzuki Rs 592.85 (Rs 586.50), TELCO Rs 279.95 (Rs 277.90) and MTNL Rs 252.30 (Rs 250.60).

The major losers were Hindaclo Rs 743.25 (Rs 793.80), Indian Rayon Rs 219.40 (Rs 232.15), Indogulf Rs 39.95 (Rs 42.15), Tatachem Rs 187.60 (Rs 197.50) and Arvind Mills Rs 70.00 (Rs 73.35).
