NEW DELHI, April 28: On discouraging overseas advices, both the precious metals, on the Delhi bullion market, suffered losses on Tuesday.On increased inflow of imported silver in the past two days on the local market, coupled with lack of matching support from local as well as upcountry buyers, spot silver. 999 crashed by Rs 130 at Rs 8560 a kg. and silver weekly delivery, on unloading by the bulls, slumped by Rs 120 at Rs 8595 per kg. Silver coins, however, remained unchanged at Rs 10,300-10,500 per 100 pieces.
Gold biscuit and standard mint gold dipped by Rs 20-30 at Rs 4260 and Rs 4270 per 10 gram respectively due to slack demand from jewellers. No change was recorded in gold sovereign at Rs 3525-3550 per 8 gram.
Wheat firm
An easy-to-firm tendency was noticed on the Delhi grains and pulses market on Tuesday.
Arrival of wheat from the neighbouring states at local Lawrence Road, Najafgarh and Nerala mandies dipped to 9,000-11,000 bags, consequently, wheat dara recorded a gain of Rs 10 atRs 533-538 a quintal. According to local traders, procurement of wheat in Punjab and Haryana mandies by the Government agencies was reported to be in full swing, therefore, arrivals on the local mandies remained scanty.
On selling pressure, kabligram slided down by Rs 25-50 a quintal. Arrival of rice from Haryana and Punjab, on the local mandies, was about 15,000-16,000 bags and due to slack demand from exporters, rice permal and sela permal slipped by Rs 5-10 a quintal while basmati rice prices held steady. Arrival of maize from U.P. was reported about 1400-1500 bags and prices remained unchanged on scattered local support. Gram, prices slipped by Rs 15-20 a quintal and gram dal was also down by Rs 10-25 a quintal because of weak upcountry demand. Urad and its dal slumped by Rs 25-50 a quintal due to weak demand. Similarly, on increased inflow from Sriganganagar, arhar and its dal tumbled down by Rs 25-50 a quintal.
Sugar slips
Gur prices, on the local market ruled firm due to declined inflow.Following weak demand from U.P., Bihar and other upcountry bulk buyers, mill delivery sugar prices slipped by Rs 3-5 a quintal. Maharashtra buyers procured about 4000-5000 bags and U.P. traders procured about 6000-7000 bags of sugar from U.P. millers.
Groundnut oil suffers
Mill delivery groundnut oil suffered a sharp loss of Rs 50 at Rs 4100 a quintal due to slack demand from vanaspati and refining mills. On procurement of mustard oil by the NDDB in local and U.P. at Rs 370-372 per 10 kgs., mustard oil expeller firmed up by Rs 10-20 a quintal. Mustard prices, on the local market, ruled firm at their previous close. Coconut oil, on weak Cochin advices, dipped by Rs 15 at Rs 780 a tin.
Dry mango skyrockets
On encouraging Cochin advices, black pepper, on the local market flared up by Rs 400 a quintal. Following loss to mango crop, this year, in the producing states of MP, Gujarat, Bihar, Andhra etc., quality dry mango prices recorded a hefty rise of Rs 1000 at Rs 9000 a quintal and zeera onfirm Unjha advices, flared up by Rs 100 a quintal.
Nutmeg recorded a gain of Rs 20 a kg. due to paucity of ready stock while on increased arrival from Cochin and Shillong, mace tumbled down by Rs 15-60 at Rs 750-810 a kg. Among dry fruits, inferior Indian kishmish recorded a sharp rise of Rs 200 per 40 kgs. due to loss to grapes crop in Maharashtra coupled with paucity of ready stock.
Hessians static
Sluggish pattern of trading continued in jute goods as B. Twill (2 & 2-1.4 lbs), Harapatta, Hessians and twines traded at the previous rates in the absence of demand from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and the advices from Calcutta also were not encouraging enough.
Deshi cotton zooms
Cotton yarns was offered at the previous prices in listless trading due to poor offtake. On the other hand, deshi cotton prices shot up by Rs 60-90 at Rs 1490-1510 per 40 kgs. in Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab mandies on apprehensions of crop damage in Andhra Pradesh coupled with buoyant demand from spinningmills. J-34 in these states marked up by Rs 50-100 at Rs 1900-2100 per 40 kg.
In Gujarat, 797-cotton moved up from Rs 14800-15000 to Rs 15000-15300 and Shanker-4 flared up by Rs 200-300 at Rs 19000-21500 per candy.
Ammonium bicarb bullish
Following manufacturers reducing sales price of sodium hydro sulphite by Rs 6 per kg. its prices, on the local market, were marked down by Re. one at Rs 68 per kg. In last two days, the prices have declined by Rs 6 per kg. Sodium hydro sulphite Demosha though the manufacturers have not reduced its sales prices yet, but still due to declined prices of Kalali, its prices were marked down by Rs 3 at Rs 67 per kg. Sodium hydro sulphite China was being offered at Rs 54 per kg. and Gulshan hydro was at Rs 55 per kg. Thymol declined by Rs 10 at Rs 330 per kg. under selling pressure. Mentha oil, menthol flake and bold also edged lower by Rs 3-10 at Rs 387, Rs 390 and Rs 425 per kg.
Mercury declined by Rs 100 at Rs 10700 per 34.5 kgs on weak demand. Ammonium bicarbfirmed up by Rs 20-25 at Rs 245-255 per 25 kgs. on buoyant demand from bakery units coupled with poor supply.
Copper moves up
Tin ingot edged up further by Re. one at Rs 337 per kg. on mutual deals amongst stockists. Copper wire bar, rod, wire, utensils, mixed scrap, accessories and bell metal scrap firmed up by 50 paise per kg. on buying by the millers while the stocks were weak. Aluminium coil (30 gauge) also edged up by Re. one per kg.
Nickel plate declined by Rs 1-4 as per size at Rs 294-348 per kg. on poor support from electroplating and stainless steel units. Other metals were unchanged.
Uptrend continues in khoya
Following marriage season demand, uptrend in Khoya-Pindi continued as today the prices spurted by Rs 5-10 per kg. Khoya-pindi moved up from Rs 76-82 to Rs 85-95 per kg. and Dhap shot up from Rs 74-80 to Rs 80-85 per kg. Seeing the ever increasing demand, the traders expect the prices to touch Rs 110-120 per kg.
Cement easy
Cement ruled easy due to excessstock at the sidings while the demand was not upto mark.
Fresh arrivals to the sidings were nearly 36,000 bags J.K. Super and 40,000 bags Mehar cement. J.K. Super 53 grade cement FOR rates marked at Rs 141 per bag and Mehar cement was offered at Rs 141 per bag. J.K. Shakti, ACC Gagal tarded at Rs 136 per bag FOR. No change was seen in Shriram, ACC, Laxmi, Birla Uttam, Shree and Vikram cement prices.
Garlic weak
Garlic and ginger quoted easy on lack of buying interest. Uttar Pradesh variety onion quoted at Rs 600-650, but at these rates, the sales were down considerably. Phool garlic sold at Rs 400-425, medium at Rs 150-120 and Ladwa at Rs 250-300 per 60 kgs. Ginger was seen easy at Rs 600-800 per 60 kgs. as due to rising temperature the demand declined further. Potato of Punjab was marked up by Rs 10 at Rs 350-370 per 80 kgs. while of UP was offered at Rs 200-280 per 80 kgs. The mushroom prices remained unchanged at Rs 40-45 per kg.
