World hard wheat prices set to rise

Dow Jones
London: World hard wheat prices are expected to rise from the four-year lows seen earlier this year, due to a forecast 2.5 per cent reduction in 1998 global wheat production, the London-based Economist Intelligence Unit said in its latest report last week.

In its second quarter 1998 World Commodity Forecasts, the EIU said hard wheat is likely to be in short supply next season, raising prices to a peak of $200 a metric ton, the highest for three years, in second quarter 1999. This compares to the four-year low of $140 a ton seen in first quarter 1998.
