Sterlite Industries is planning a substantial increase in its open offer price for aluminium-maker Indal. Though the company is yet to decide on the exact price, Sterlite may make a fresh offer to Indal shareholders around Rs 140-Rs 150, which the financial institutions may find tempting enough.
  Knoll Pharma may consider Beem Healthcare merger
Knoll Pharmaceuticals may examine the feasibility of merging its wholly-owned subsidiary Beem Healthcare with itself, following its decision to concentrate on the prescription drugs business. Beem Healthcare, which commenced operations on January 1, 1996, is the company's over-the-counter (OTC) products marketing subsidiary.

Compaq may make PCs at Digital unit
Compaq Computer Corp may manufacture its range of personal computers (PCs) at Digital Equipment India's (DEIL) Bangalore plant after completion of its proposed $9.6 billion acquisition of the US-based Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). DEIL is a 51 per cent subsidiary of DEC.

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has once again proved its international competitiveness by winning an order against global competition, outbidding European and American multinational companies, for supply of generating equipment for Tata Electric Companies 240 mw thermal power plant at Jojobera, (Bihar).
