Scrips decline on selling pressure

Mumbai, May 8: Scrips declined on bear pressure from speculators on NSE for squaring up positions on the last day of current settlement at the Mumbai Stock Exchange (BSE). Reflecting the activity, the NSE-50 index opened at 1172.10, touched a low of 1157.30 and closed at 1161.55, showing a fall of 10.90 points from the previous close of 1172.45. The Dollar NSe-50 (Defty) opened at 1021.00, dipped to a low of 1008.10 and closed at 1012.05, with a loss of 9.40 from the previous close of 1021.45. The Midcap opened at 1639.80, dropped to a low of 1616.30 and closed at 1620.50, showing a decline of 19.65 points from the previous close of 1640.15.

The total traded value was Rs 1,456.23 crore from 579.68 lakh shares and in 2,01,613 trades. Debentures traded value was Rs 11.23 lakhs. Around 362 scrips advanced, 668 scrips declined and 97 remain unchanged. About 68 securities had hit their price bands.

The five most active five scrips today were ITC with a volume of Rs 284.63 crore, Satyam Computer Rs 182.70crore, SBI Rs 89.65 crore, Reliance Rs 71.84 crore and ACC Rs 57.99 crore.
