City on the move, pulls up ahead of rivals
The Honda City could end up being the winner in the mid-size segment during 1998-99, if sales in April are any indication. The distinct losers are the Ford Escort and Opel Astra, while Cielo has managed to retain some of the tempo generated after its price slash. Maruti Esteem continues to head the pack but the overwhelming response to the City should be a cause for concern.

Snooping ICICI officials are shown the door
Competition need not show up only at boardrooms or in rate wars; it can lurk its head at the strangest of places: call it corporate espionage or what you may, Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) sent two of its executives to snoop around at the press conference at its rival IDBI's headquarters in Mumbai. The ICICI officials -- not yet trained in the fine art of spying -- were shown the door even before the conference had begun.

Online trading not so profitable in the United States
The clever young things in Silicon Valley have made a fortune by selling shares in Internet-based firms. But will companies that offer Internet share trading make anything like as much money? There are now more than 70 online brokerages in America. Last year, calculates, Credit Suisse First Boston, an investment bank, the number of Americans investing using the Internet more than doubled, to 3.3 million.
