MUNICH, May 12: BMW AG chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder repeated on Tuesday that the company would not make a fresh bid for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, but said he had not given up hope of acquiring the British carmaker. In a speech at BMW's annual shareholder meeting, Pischetsrieder said: "We said at the end of last year that we would make only one offer and we have made only one. Therefore we are surprised by the public debate about whether we would make another."
"Under no circumstances will we change our offer for Rolls-Royce," Pischetsrieder went on, but added he had not given up hope that BMW would eventually clinch the deal.
"We are not thinking about withdrawing our offer," he said.BMW has bid 340 million pounds ($555.5 million) for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, well below a bid of 430 million pounds offered by Volkswagen AG.
Pischetsrieder said that BMW was Rolls-Royce Plc's favouredbidder for the British luxury car company, adding that a decision on acquisition of rights to the Rolls-Royce brand namewould only begin once a deal for the company had been concluded.Vickers shareholders are scheduled to meet on June 4 in London to decide who will win the long-standing battle to acquire Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
