TCS bags Rs 150 cr order from Tata Teleservices

MUMBAI, May 22: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has bagged a Rs 150-crore information- technology (IT) infrastructure and operations contract from Tata Teleservices Ltd, the basic-service licence holder for Andhra Pradesh. As per the agreement, said to be the first of its kind in the country, TCS will be responsible for sourcing, customising, developing, implementing and running the critical operational and business- support systems for the operations of Tata Teleservices. The contract will cover hardware, software, systems integration and facilities management for the next seven years. TCS will provide advanced technologies and capabilities for customer-care and billing systems, network and traffic-management systems and corporate- support systems. Each of these systems will also be seamlessly integrated by TCS.

According to Tata Teleservices president and chief executive officer Serge Fortin, this contract will help the company in improving its operational efficiency and integrate its information systemfor improved management decision-making. "This will, in turn, allow us to focus on our core business of providing state-of-the-art telecommunication services to our customers," he said.

Tata Teleservices plans to have a subscriber base of 50,000 within a year of its operations. This is expected to go up to 3 lakh by the turn of the century. TCS, a division of Tata Sons, is one of the country's premier software houses. Besides being the largest Indian software company, it is also the largest software exporter.
